OMK Richard Gaunt (1961-1966) recently re-connected with his beloved teacher from school days, John Kilingbeck (1964-1986), on a visit to Devon.
This is what Richard had to say following their reunion:
John inspired me about the world around us and after thumbing through endless copies of National Geographic magazine, I have since worked, travelled and lived in 82 countries. I have sailed, owned and chartered yachts from Hong Kong to Rio to the Caribbean and Thailand and from St Helena Island to Pool Harbiur. I am a yacht master, navigator and skipper.
I am currently in Costa Rica where I stay for a month every year. I speak some Spanish.
It was terrific meeting up with John and Jenny, his wife, in their beautiful stone renovated home set in the heart of Devon Woodland.
Thank you, John. It was a wonderful and a very memorable day and terrific to spend so much time with you, especially after 60 years!
Richard
Ps I don’t think I was your favourite pupil but I did my best!!!
