OMK Weekend 2025

What a weekend!

A Friday night T20 kicked things off in glorious sunshine.  After a slow start at the bat, things picked up for the OMKs and it looked like they might pull off a win against a very strong MK side, though the boys emerged victorious in the end.  The OMK team was made up of alumni spanning an age range of 19 to 62 - a fantastic team effort!  The atmosphere was great, boding well for the rest of the weekend.

In the morning, the golfers gathered up at Tavistock Golf Club for the annual tournament masterminded by OMK David Anthony (1950-1955).  The wind picked up during the day but that didn't hamper spirits.  Prizes on the day went to:  Hugh Myott, Individual Winner Tavistock Member; Philip Hines, Individual Winner Visitor; Nicholas Ormond, Liz Wilson-Smith, Ruth Horn, 1st Team Winners; Nichola Ormond, Leading Lady.

Back at school, OMKs arrived for tours and tea and trips down memory lane aplenty.  There was great excitement at one point when a gust of wind blew the gazebo onto Ghost Walk, putting our alumni and current pupils to the test as everyone lept into action to rescue it before it blew on toward the Moor!

We gathered again in the evening for a very moving Chapel Service led by The Venerable John Reed who reminded us that we are not humans on a spiritual journey, but spiritual beings on a human journey.  This was a poignant message as we remembered those from our community who had died in the last year:

Geoffrey Allen (Former Staff, 1983-2000)

Brian Anthony (1952-1957)

Howard Ball (Former Governor. 1998-2020)

Harry Bickley (Former Bursar, 1982-1999)

Jolyon Booth (Former Staff, 1968-1980)

Tony Brown (1948-1952)

David Burwood (1962-1967)

Alun Carter (1981-1983)

Robin Cornish (1953-1959)

Stephen Farrant (1949-1954)

Peter Colin Gilbard (1966-1971)

David (Daudi) Kimenye (1972-1974)

Alison Mundy (Browne) (1980-1982)

Elizabeth (Buff) Saxon (Former Staff, 1986-1996)

Michael Tibbs (1929-1936)

William Walton (1954-1959)

Victoria Williams (1980-1982)

David Woollcombe (1962-1966)

After pausing to reflect, we sang with gusto (at the Head Master's instruction), Jerusalem being a particular favourite.

We then moved outside where we enjoyed a drink and the view while reuniting.  We sat down to an a wonderful meal and then listened to the Head Master and our speaker, OMK Daniel Fathers (1979-1982).  Daniel regaled us with tales of his adventurous life in the film industry, the military and as a bull-rider!  His message stuck - take the bull by the horns (literally!) and life is too short, a message echoed by his classmate, Paul Roberts (1978-1983) who paid tribute to the three classmates they have lost recently, including very close friend and teammate, Alun Carter.

We are now looking ahead to future events, and the start of our 150th Anniversary celebrations in 2027 so do look out for dates to come.
