Sue Pennell arrived as Head Cook at Kelly in the early 1960s from Sherborne where she had also run the kitchen. It wasn't long before Mrs Melvin, the Head Master's wife, introduced her to James (Jim) Jordan who was gardener at the time. It seems it was love at first sight. They later moved to Dawlish and worked together again at the Rise Convent, Sue as Head Cook and Jim as gardener. They always cherished their time living in Tavistock and working at Kelly.
Jim and Sue's children have recently planted a tree in their parents' memory in a spot overlooking the main playing fields.
