Charlie Woodham (OMK 1952-56) with his carving in Newton and with Holly and his model of Olga

It was wonderful to welcome Charlie Woodham back for the first time since he last visited for an old boys' rugby match in 1966.

Charlie, who featured in the 2020 OMK Magazine (on pages 13 and 27) having written a book about his life and adventures, had a chance to meet up with his pen pal, current MK pupil, Holly.  Both took part in a pen pal scheme during the first lockdown when our pupils were unable to fulfill the volunteering element of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards and so began to correspond with older alumni to meet this criteria. They have kept in touch ever since, even after Holly completed her D of E, swapping stories about school life then and now.

Charlie presented Holly with a model of Olga, the School's 50 foot pilot cutter that he carved himself as a lockdown project. Indeed, he has shown woodworking prowess since his school days, evidence of which we found on the Newton House boards where he had carved his name and the School shield all those years ago.
