We celebrated the life of cherished former member of staff Peter Williams on a most glorious autumnal day. Over one hundred and fifty guests arrived for the morning service led by Andrew Corness (1985-1987) with hymns aplenty, beautiful words from Sara Hirst (Former Staff 1982-1995) and Damian McKinney (1974-1979) and readings from Amanda Bridgewater (1991-1998) and Jonathan Kay (1983-1987). The Chapel was full of voice which included the current 1st XV rugby team.
While the boys went off to get ready for their match, guests enjoyed coffee and cake in a packed library. Pupils and staff from various generations enjoyed reminiscing and sharing their reflections on a beloved teacher and colleague.
A crowd gathered to watch the 1st XV play Plymouth College, a match which will from now on be known as the Williams-Carter Memorial Cup, in memory of Peter and one of his former pupils, Alun Carter (1981-1983) who also sadly passed recently. Unfortunately, Plymouth emerged victorious but it was a fantastic occasion nevertheless. There was a lovely moment when the two teams linked arms and listened to the Head Master explain the importance of the day and Peter's wife, Anne, presented the trophy, generously donated by Paul Roberts (1978-1982).
It was a fabulous tribute and a reminder of the lasting impact of a wonderful teacher, a legacy that lives on long after they are gone.
